A portion of the proceeds of my CD "Sleeping When You Woke Me" will go to these three amazing homes for children. Please visit the websites and consider giving whatever you can to help these children.

Uganda :AIDchild. www.aidchild.org
I came across the AIDchild website about 5 years ago and was forever changed by the director's passion to give orphans who have AIDS a home and let them live the rest of their lives instead of dying. Read the journals on the website and you will fall in love with these kids forever. You can even buy flowers or gifts as a way to give!

"When you get this idea to move to Africa so you can help orphans living with AIDS, you draw curtains across most of your heart's windows. Their views are too frightening. The unknowns, the hopeless questions. The whys. But as these nameless orphans become your children. Your babies. Nameless no more. Orphans no more. You hear them say, 'Daddy, Daddy, I love you soooooo MUCH.' And you realize that they are talking to you."
Nathanial Dunnigan, director of AIDchild.

"In 2002 I joined the co-founder of Peace Gospel International on a trip to visit one of their orphanages in Southern India. I will now forever hold a special place for Peace Gospel in my heart". -Kate

"When my two year old son Joseph was very sick in the hospital in India, my thoughts turned to the countless slum dwellers who also had sick children but could not do anything about it. As I gave my son clean bottled water to nurse him back to health, I thought of the mother in the slums holding her dying baby who could only offer her child contaminated water. We are working hard to create better systems of clean water delivery in the slums to offer the poor a clean jug of water in the name of Jesus. However even worse than the mother holding her child in the slums with no clean water is the suffering orphan in the streets who has no mother to offer anything. Davidraj is one such orphan we found in the streets and age 8. We took him in, clothed him, fed him, gave him an education and introduced him to Jesus. He is now 16, working at the orphanage to serve other children who are following in his footsteps. Next year he will enroll in our Bible College to pursue his dream of being a pastor." -Testimony of a volunteer working in India with Peace Gospel International

Racife Brazil: Casa De Esperanca
John and Fabi Shmidt, founders of Casa De Esperanca, have been dear friends of my mentors Ben and Robin Pasley for years. I went with Ben to Racife two years ago.

"Richard is a little boy. He came to us after witnessing his own father attempting to murder his mother...in there home...in front of his eyes. Can you imagine his confusion or hurt? His home has fallen apart and now the House of Hope is where he comes for help. Many children like Richard receive love, protection, four meals a day, dental care and the psychological help needed to deal with their loss. The House of Hope is a day care but so much more. We currently hold vocational workshops for the un employed, we house a medical and dental clinic, we are starting computer classes and we are in the process of building an orphanage. The main goal is to see little ones like Joe come to a relationship with Jesus and know that he is loved. "
John and Fabi Schmid, directors of Casa de Esperanca

Here are some statistics taken from sources such as the United Nations and World Vision that illustrate why I so passionately believe in helping orphanages:

-In 2000, an estimated 13 million children had lost their mother or both parents to AIDS. By the year 2010, this number will reach 40 million.

-More than 17,000,000 children die each year of starvation and malnutrition. That’s over 46,000 a day.

-Even children who eat enough to fill their bellies every day may still suffer from an unbalanced diet that threatens their health. In fact, malnutrition causes 55 per cent of all child deaths each year.

-In 1999, 300,000 children were fighting in armed conflicts in 31 countries.

-In the past decade, 2 million children were killed in wars, 6 million were seriously injured or permanently disabled and 12 million were left homeless.

-Children in war are often taken from their families when rebel troops attack an area.
Boys as young as five or six are forced to become soldiers, while their sisters serve as domestic servants

-An estimated 300 million children work worldwide.

-An estimated 10 million children are caught up in the sex industry, either in child
prostitution, sex tourism or pornography.

-Prostitution and trafficking in women and children is the third largest income-earner globally, surpassed only by drug trafficking and arm sales. Because customers prefer virgins who are not infected with diseases, there is a demand for younger and younger children to enter the trade.
